Snow in Rushford

Yes, we had lots of snow this week. Reports of 15-18" inches here. Really cold weather following the snow. We are bundled up. Not even seeing much wildlife today.

December 1

Another beautiful day here in Rushford! As I look out over the fog covered valley and watch the sun rising over the hills I realize just how lucky I am!

Facebook?

Our 2009 season has officially ended and it looks like it is going to be a loooooooooooonnnnnnnnnggggggggg winter! Thanks to everyone who came to stay with us this past year. If you didn't get a chance this year- we hope to see you in 2010.

I am thinking about adding a facebook page for the bed and breakfast---any advice?

Doug just left tonight to visit our son and daughter-in-Law in Napa, Ca. Wish I could have gone---but the whole family will be together out there during the Christmas holidays--yeah!

Lutefisk and Meatball Dinner

I stopped to get my bi-weekly fix of lefse for the early morning coffee drinkers and while talking to one of the owners of Norsland Lefse found out the following: A Lutefisk and Lefse dinner will be served at the factory on Friday, October 16 from 1:oo-7:00 p.m. If you are coming to Rushford this may something you will want to sample.

Summer is finally here!

Summer has finally arrived--heat mixed with humidity! I won't complain because I remember January. Our guests have been tubing the river this week and staying off the trails because of the heat--both great things to do in the summer.

This week in the box from Featherstone Farms we are looking forward to: Cilantro, Salad Mix w/ Baby Spinach Leaves, Broccoli, Cucumber, Radishes, and Kohlrabi, and Strawberries.

Look for strawberries with sourdough french toast, spinach quiche, and broccoli with fresh hollandaise and eggs on the menu this weekend.

Our great local lefse shop has re-opened and we are serving lefse at least once during the weekends! Our freshly picked rhubarb is being put into the delicious morning muffins.

Official Start of Summer!

Memorial Day is over and we are thinking about summer! Still serving fresh morels and hope to have some for at least another week. Rhubarb coming along nicely and had fresh rhubarb muffins this morning. Looking forward to nice weather this week so I can hopefully get work done in the gardens.

May News

Morel mushrooms have arrived and we have lots in the fridge. We plan on cooking with them most days through the end of May or until we get sick of them!! We are also anxiously waiting for our first delivery of the season from the local organic farm in a couple of weeks.

This year we decided to feature "Spring Grove Soda Pop" along with other beverages in the afternoon. This local bluff country soda is made with pure cane sugar and really refreshing.

Commonweal Theatre: If you are coming to stay with us and plan on attending the theatre we have a $5.00 discount coupon per ticket. The discounts need to be applied when purchasing the ticket so make sure to get them from us first.

Please check out the "weekday traveler" for a great midweek special.

Cheers and hope to see you this summer!

Grass is greening up!

Finally we are seeing signs of Spring in Rushford! The grass is starting to green up, the forsythia looks like it is alive and will bloom in the next couple of weeks and the Turkey Buzzards have come back.

Although the buzzards are not the most beautiful birds up close, they really are a beautiful sight to see as they soar overhead. We are about one month away from the really colorful birds to return, but will put our the oranges next week to catch the eye of the Baltimore Oriole scouts as they move northward.

Waiting for the daffodils to appear, but nothing yet.

Cheers, Marie

Raking

No snow on the lawn and now we are working outside to "pretty up" the place. Lots of deer damage, so pulling out shrubs and replacing with shrubs the deer hopefully won't like. I have finally given it up to the deer and starting over with less appetizing shrubs. Will look a little bit sparse this year, but should fill in nicely. Cheers!

Our 10th Year

New Year and new blog! I will post random thoughts sporadically, but at least monthly on this blog. I welcome any suggestions or comments (provided they don't include more work for poor Doug!)

A beautiful sunny day and Spring surely is almost here! Going to get outside today and do something fun!

Hope you are having a great day when you are browsing around our revised and improved website.
